Moving to XFCE by imroy Moving to XFCE by imroy
Wow, that last screen shot from May 2005 was getting old!

I've been playing around with XFCE recently. GNOME on my system has been slowly collapsing under its own weight. To be honest, I don't even use much of GNOME any more. I've always done almost all of my file management on the command line, so Nautilus was basically just sitting there to load the wallpaper and show a bunch of icons that I rarely use. I don't even use the "Metacity" window manager, instead preferring the configurability of the original GNOME window manager, Sawfish.

I've also been playing around with the X Composite extension. Compiz was fun for a while, but I didn't like the window manager it used. Then I discovered that XFCE supports the composite extension as well. While it doesn't make windows all wobbly like compiz, it still allows translucent windows and drop shadows.

The wallpaper is from `hameed's Empiria wallpaper pack. I have MPlayer playing an episode of Azumanga Daioh in a semi-transparent and maximized window. Osaka is a hilarious character :) Then I have two Thunar file manager windows open, one showing my directory full of last year's deviations. Most icons are doubled up because I always keep a lossless PNG copy as well as the JPEG I upload.
